Horseradish burn is a condition that can be caused by horseradish, wasabi, or mustard. Horseradish contains sinigrin which reacts with the sodium in your stomach to create allyl isothiocyanate and hydrochloric acid. This irritates the lining of your esophagus and mouth causing “horseradish burn.”

Horseradish is a root that can be used as an ingredient in chili and salad dressings. It also provides the strong flavor of wasabi (a type of Japanese horseradish) when it’s grated or finely chopped. One reason for this is because the cells on its surface have chemicals called glucosinolates which react with two types of enzymes to form allyl isothiocyanate and hydrochloric acid. These irritants cause irritation along your esophagus walls if you consume too much at once – resulting in what we refer to as “horseradish burn.” In some cases, people who are sensitive may experience

an asthmatic attack.

The best way to avoid these symptoms is by mixing a little horseradish with mayonnaise or sour cream, which will help mitigate the burn level in your mouth and throat while still getting that nice flavor sensation. You can also choose to supplement this technique with chewing gum or drinking milk – both of which have ingredients that counteract the effects of wasabi as well. Fruits like apples, pears and oranges are also high in malic acid (a precursor for allyl isothiocyanate) so they’re great options if you prefer something sweet!

In addition, it’s important not to do anything else vigorous after eating too much horseradish until the burning sensation subsides on its own. Avoid drinking hot liquids, chewing gum or anything else that will increase the heat in your mouth and throat – all of these things can exacerbate symptoms of a horseradish burn!
